A little more about Tenerife

The Canary Islands are split into 2 Spanish provinces: the Westerly Islands of Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera and Hierro, from the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (chief town Santa Cruz) and the Eastern Islands of Gran Canaria, FuerteVentura and Lanzarote which formed the province of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Tenerife, the largest of the seven Canary Islands is awesome with its contrast of black volcanic seashores in the North and yellow-white sands in the South.

The interior of the island boasts a lunar-like landscape punctuated with banana plantations, whitewashed villages and a cultural heritage worth exploring.

With the contrasts of lush forests, exotic fauna and flora, deserts, mountains, volcanos, stunning coastlines and wonderful beaches it's not hard to see Tenerife's appeal.

Mt. Teide at 12,200 feet, it is the highest mountain in Spain. You can take a cable-car ride to the summit for amazing views of the lunar-like landscape, which on a clear day simply takes your breath away.

Tenerife is well known as the island of two faces - a 'north-south' divide. The south attracts more tourists than the north, possibly because that side of the island is hotter.

The Canary Islands - in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa - offer year-round sunshine. Tenerife's climate shows very little change in the average temperatures between summer and winter - varying between 15°C and 24°C and rainfall is only occasional. This makes it a very popular destination for those seeking winter sun.

When the sun is shining, tourists love heading for the beach, where there are watersports galore to enjoy. The island also offers plenty of opportunity for hiking, climbing, paragliding, cycling.. you name it there’s something for everyone.

One of the island's most contrasting features is the ability to bathe in the sun with the snow capped mountain tops of Mt Teide as your backdrop!

Nightlife is buzzing in the South, a tourist mecca, whilst the other side of the island contrasts sharply with resorts offering a more traditionally Spanish feel.

Tenerife is really easy to get around and really easy to get to, with 2 airports (to the North and South) serviced by many budget airlines.

For lovers of golf, Tenerife is perennially popular. Its climate means play virtually every day and for a small fee you can hire golf equipment in every club - no need to pack your clubs!
